Central Ethiopia Prioritizes Tourism Dev’t to Boost Economic Benefits: Chief Administrator

Addis Ababa, September 26, 2025 (ENA) -- The Central Ethiopia Regional State has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the development of tourism potential and cultural values to maximize economic benefits, according to Chief Administrator Endeshaw Tassew.
Speaking to ENA, the Chief Administrator Endeshaw emphasized ongoing efforts to promote and harness the region’s rich cultural heritage alongside its natural and man-made attractions.
He stressed that cultural values are not only vital tourism assets but also play a central role in strengthening community bonds, fostering sustainable peace, and promoting justice.
Moreover, Endeshaw explained that wide-ranging initiatives are being implemented to support tourism growth.
These initiatives, he noted, are already yielding encouraging results, particularly in terms of their contribution to the regional economy.
In support of this vision, Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa emphasized the significance of cultural festivals, such as the Ethiopian New Year and other traditional celebrations, in reinforcing social solidarity.
She pointed out that such festivals embody deep historical and cultural meanings, making them indispensable for both national identity and tourism promotion.
Furthermore, the minister underlined the need to enhance research-based efforts to preserve the authenticity of these festivals and ensure their accurate transmission to future generations.
To this end, she stated that greater attention will be given to positioning traditional festivals as major tourist attractions, while also pursuing their recognition as world heritage sites.
The minister also noted that infrastructure development is underway to make festival venues more accessible and visitor-friendly, thereby enhancing the overall tourist experience.
