Ethiopia, Kuwait Reaffirm Long-standing Ties Rooted in Shared Values & Mutual Respect

Addis Ababa, September 25, 2025 (ENA) -- On the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly, President Taye Atske-Selassie held discussions with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of Kuwait.

The two leaders reaffirmed the historic and long-standing ties between Ethiopia and Kuwait rooted in shared values and mutual respect. The crown prince noted that even during difficult times, Ethiopia has stood firmly by Kuwiat, a gesture deeply appreciated by the government and people of Kuwait.

The discussions highlighted the need to reactivate the 12 bilateral agreements already signed and to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.

With Ethiopia recognized as a potential food basket of the region, both sides underscored the vast opportunities in agriculture where Kuwait’s investment can play a transformative role.

President Taye also praised the Kuwait Fund for its role in financing key projects in Ethiopia and emphasized the importance of scaling up such support, especially in light of Ethiopia’s ongoing multisectoral reforms, corridor development initiatives, and regional connectivity projects.


 

His Highness the Crown Prince, on his part, expressed Kuwait’s eagerness to increase investments in Ethiopia.

On multilateral issues, both leaders recalled their track record of close cooperation, including within the UN Security Council, where Kuwait and Ethiopia have often aligned their positions on African and global matters of importance.
