Ethiopian Federal Police Modernizes Operations with Advanced Technology, Strengthens Global Ties

Addis Ababa, September 21, 2025 (ENA) -- Ethiopia’s Federal Police Commission General Commissioner, Demelash Gebremichael revealed that the Federal Police is organizing itself with human resources and modern technology to ensure citizens peace and security.

In an interview with ENA, General Commissioner Demelash  said that 116 years have passed since Ethiopian police began operation as a modern institution. During all these years, it has been safeguarding the country's peace and security.

He said that following the reform measures taken in recent years, the institution has been effectively carrying out its responsibilities by making practical transformations.

This reform has enabled the police to effectively carry out crime prevention and investigative activities while also respecting human rights and upholding the rule of law.

The Commissioner General further highlighted that the police now has a presence across the entire country, boosting its crime prevention capabilities.

According to the Commissioner General, Federal Police is working responsibly in coordination with other security agencies to safeguard the country's peace and uphold the rule of law.

The Federal Police is conducting extensive work to develop its technological capability; he noted mentioning that the institution possesses drone capabilities, digital communication radio systems, a command and control center, as well as the citizens' application called EFPApp.

Commissioner Demelash further explained that these technologies have been enhancing its crime prevention and investigation capabilities.

The Ethiopian Federal Police is also strengthening its collaboration with other global institutions, he stated.

In particular, Commissioner General Demelash revealed that Federal Police is working closely with Interpol, the African Police Institution, and the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO).
