Ethiopia Builds Solid Economic Foundation over the Past Seven Years, Finance Minister Ahmed Says

Addis Ababa, September 8, 2025 (ENA) -- Finance Minister Ahmed Shide hailed Ethiopia’s successful reforms and resilience over the past seven years, stressing that the nation has built a solid foundation for a secure and competitive economy.
Ethiopia celebrated the 3rd Pagumen Progress Day at the Addis Ababa Science Museum under the theme “Achievement for Sustainable Growth.” The event highlighted the nation’s progress and reform-driven accomplishments over the past seven years.
The event was attended by Finance Minister Ahmed Shide, Industry Minister Melaku Alebel, Mines Minister Engineer Habtamu Tegene, alongside state ministers, senior officials, and guests.
In his keynote address, Finance Minister Ahmed Shide hailed Ethiopia’s resilience and reform achievements, stressing that the past seven years of transformation have laid the foundation for a secure and competitive economy.
He noted that the reforms implemented since the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year have not only strengthened reliable institutions but also established a political and economic system capable of driving sustainable growth.
The Minister highlighted that tangible progress has been recorded in key development sectors, including agriculture, industry, mining, revenue collection, and finance, demonstrating the heights Ethiopia is poised to reach in the years ahead.
He also emphasized the need for continued commitment and perseverance to sustain this momentum.
Officials further underscored that the comprehensive economic reforms have already delivered significant results, such as boosting government revenue, expanding exports, improving foreign exchange earnings, and stabilizing inflation.
This year’s celebration also coincided with two historic national milestones: the signing of an agreement to launch domestic fertilizer production, fulfilling a long-held aspiration, and the imminent inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), a symbol of unity and resilience.
Exhibitions and presentations were also held at the Science Museum, showcasing Ethiopia’s economic achievements and development strides over the past seven years.
