Ethiopia’s FM Forges New Diplomatic Ties with The Bahamas and Discusses Cooperation with Grenad

Addis Ababa, September 7, 2025 (POA) –Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gedion Timothewos, met with his counterpart from The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Frederick Audley Mitchell Jr, on the margins of the Second Africa-CARICOM Summit in Addis Ababa.

On the occasion, they discussed bilateral and multilateral issues of shared interest, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  


 

After their deliberations, the foreign ministers signed an agreement to establish formal diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and The Bahamas.

Separately, Foreign Minister Gedion also held discussions with Grenadian Foreign Minister Joseph Andall.


 

The two ministers highlighted the importance of building on the longstanding historical ties between Africa and the Caribbean, stressing the need to translate these bonds into practical cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for both regions.

They also exchanged views on expanding collaboration in key areas, including health, diplomacy, human resource development, aviation, and other fields of common interest.
