PM Abiy Highlights MEDEMER ‘Synergy’ as Key to Ethiopia's Progress at Africa-Caribbean Summit

Addis Ababa, September 7, 2025 (ENA) Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed championed a philosophy of "synergy" as the driving force behind Ethiopia’s achievements.

Speaking to leaders from across Africa and the Caribbean at the second Africa-Caribbean Summit that kicked off this morning in Addis Ababa, the Prime Minister described this synergy as a shared effort, a unity of purpose that turns an action into lasting change.

The premier outlined how this principle has been instrumental in Ethiopia's development.

He cited several national projects and initiatives as concrete examples of this collective action. Among the key points of his speech was the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

The Prime Minister presented the GERD as "proof of our strengths when we unite." He underscored that the mega-dam, funded by the Ethiopian people and built through their labor and sacrifice, is not just a national achievement but a testament to collective effort for all of Africa.

“When Ethiopia speaks with one voice on climate, on debt or trade, we deliver. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is proof of our strengths when we unite. Born in the heart of millions, funded by our own people, built through their labor and sacrifice. It is a testament to shared vision, bold determination, and collective effort, a historic achievement for Ethiopia and for Africa.”

The speech served as a call for greater cooperation and a shared vision between African and Caribbean nations, proposing Ethiopia's model of "synergy" as a blueprint for achieving lasting change and collective progress.
