Ethiopian Artists Celebrate New Year at U.S. Embassy, Fostering Cultural Ties & Friendship

Addis Ababa, September 5, 2025 (ENA) -- Ethiopian artists presented the famous Ethiopian New Year cultural song “Abeb Ayosh” at the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa today in connection with the upcoming Ethiopian New Year.

The captivating performance, part of a cultural exchange program, highlighted Ethiopia’s rich heritage while fostering people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and the United States.

On the occasion, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga warmly welcomed Ambassador Nebiyu Tedla and the Ras Theatre cultural team to the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, praising the event as a celebration of friendship and cultural inclusion.

Ambassador Nebiyu Tedla, Director General for Public Diplomacy Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the spirit of friendship and cultural inclusion that binds Ethiopia and the United States.


‘’In this spirit, we extend our New Year greetings to our American friends,” Ambassador Nebiyu said, noting Ethiopia’s long-standing traditions of hospitality, music, and togetherness.

He expressed hope that the New Year would bring stronger ties between the two nations, rooted in respect and shared prosperity.


 

The artists from Ras Theatre beautifully brought to life Ethiopia’s rich traditions, music, and the spirit of togetherness that marks our New Year.  

“In this spirit, we extend our New Year greetings to our American friends, with hopes that the coming year will bring stronger ties rooted in respect and shared prosperity.”

U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga, for his part, extended his government’s heartfelt wishes to the Ethiopian people.

He praised Ethiopia’s vibrant cultural heritage and emphasized the centrality of peace, dialogue, and unity for the nation’s future.


“The United States stands with all Ethiopians who seek peace, stability, and prosperity,” Ambassador Massinga said. “This extraordinary potential can only be fully realized through peace, dialogue, and unity. We remain committed to supporting Ethiopia’s efforts in reconciliation, transitional justice, and inclusive dialogue.”

Both diplomats underscored the shared values and aspirations that unite Ethiopia and the United States, noting that cultural celebrations such as this one strengthen the bonds between their peoples.

As Ethiopia ushers in the New Year, the event at the U.S. Embassy served as a timely reminder of the enduring partnership, friendship, and shared vision for peace and prosperity embraced by both nations.
