Africa Climate Summit Opportunity for Stronger Collective Voice, Partnerships: IGAD Chief

Addis Ababa, September 3, 2025 (ENA) – The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu underlined that the Africa Climate Summit in Addis Ababa is an opportunity to amplify collective voice, forge stronger partnerships, and deliver solutions that ensure resilience and prosperity for the people in the region.
The second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2), a pivotal event for continental and global climate action, is set to take place from 8–10 September 2025, with a series of pre-summit events running from 5-7 September 2025 at the Addis International Convention Center (AICC).
The ACS2 is poised to deliver on its theme, “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” with a dynamic program of events, ensuring a continental Africa-led climate solutions, partnerships, and investments.
The Executive Secretary of IGAD will lead the IGAD delegation to the Africa Climate Summit 2, IGAD announced in a statement.
At the Summit, IGAD’s chief will engage with member States, the African Union, and international partners to advance the region’s climate agenda and reaffirm IGAD’s commitment to coordinated action on resilience, adaptation, and sustainable development.
As part of its strong presence at the Summit, IGAD will host a dedicated Pavilion which will serve as a hub for knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and regional collaboration.
The Pavilion will also be the venue for most IGAD-led side events, covering priority themes including blue economy – harnessing aquatic resources for sustainable growth and resilience, drought resilience, climate applications and adaptation – scaling innovative tools for climate risk management as well as food security – addressing the impact of climate change on agriculture and nutrition.
Speaking ahead of the Summit, Workneh emphasized that Climate change is the defining challenge of the time, and for the IGAD region, it is an existential issue.
“The Africa Climate Summit is an opportunity to amplify our collective voice, forge stronger partnerships, and deliver solutions that ensure resilience and prosperity for our people,” he stressed.
