Council for Public Participation to GERD Launches Support Hotline

Addis Ababa, September 2, 2025 (ENA) -- The Office of National Coordination for Public Participation to GERD announced a 8120 hotline effective today, encouraging every Ethiopian to send a short message to support and express their ideas in connection with the completion of the dam from 2 September to 10 October, 2025.

The National Council for Public Participation on the Construction of the GERD, in collaboration with Ethio Telecom, has launched a hotline.

The initiative will remain active for 33 days, from September 2 through October 10, 2025, encouraging every Ethiopian to send a short message to 8120, contributing from as little as 5 Birr, it was learned.

During the occasion, Aregawi Berhe, Director General of the Office for the Coordination of GERD, noted the great sacrifice Ethiopians, both from within and outside, have made to complete the dam.

Stating that the dam was built without any foreign help, Aregawi underscored that GERD is a model for any national projects in the future.

The dam is similar to the Victory of Adwa, which shattered colonial agreements, he said.

Mesay Woubshet, Chief Communication Officer at Ethio Telecom, stated that Ethio Telecom is proud to support this national project.

The SMS support campaign brings Ethiopians together to celebrate the GERD.
