President Taye Urges Citizens to Buy Ethiopian and Boost Economic Growth

Addis Ababa, August 30, 2025 (ENA)--Buying local products creates job opportunities for citizens and accelerates national economic growth, President Taye Atske Selassie said.
The President inaugurated the "Buy Ethiopian" national trade week expo today. The exhibition and bazaar will remain open for coming six days.
President Taye toured the event and also attended a recognition and appreciation program for top-performing members of the business community in the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year.
In his remarks, he emphasized that purchasing and using domestic products strengthens the national economy.
The "Buy Ethiopian" campaign encourages improving quality of local products and increases their contribution to economic growth, he added.
According to him, high-quality domestic products create job opportunities, lay groundwork for a healthy economy, and provide positive prospect for development.
The President further stated that the "Buy Ethiopian" expo plays a crucial role in connecting local producers and consumers.
The Ethiopian economy is in a growth trajectory, President Taye noted, adding that the country has achieved encouraging economic and social progress with the help of national reforms.
He pointed out that Ethiopia's recent economic growth has been confirmed by international institutions. Export has increased and inflation significantly reduced.
Accelerating the operationalization of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and fast-tracking the country's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) to facilitate the entry of Ethiopian products into the global market is essential, the President said.
Moreover, he stated that the benefits of using local products are multifaceted and become critical during times of global economic shifts.
He explained that using domestic products significantly enhances national wealth and adds value to the local economy.
In addition, President Taye said, it builds business skills and instills pride in one’s own culture, traditions, and resources.
The President urged producers to increase their market share by improving product quality and speed, assuring them that the government will provide the necessary support.
He also called on consumers to understand that by purchasing local products, they are not only supporting their country's economy but also creating jobs for fellow citizens.
Finally, President Taye urged investors and financial institutions to provide financial support for producers who participate in the AfCFTA, in addition to the domestic market.
