GERD Permanent Legacy, Symbol of Success, Triumph: Residents of Assosa City

Addis Ababa, August 22, 2025 (ENA) -- The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), which is built with the money and labor of Ethiopians, is a permanent legacy that will be remembered as a symbol of success and triumph, residents of Assosa City told ENA.

Once finalized, this remarkable grand project will not only electrify the country but also foster a vibrant ecosystem, supporting fish production and transforming the area into a stunning destination for recreation.

The dam would also become a significant attraction for the Benishangul-Gumuz region and its surroundings, boosting the local tourism sector.

Residents of the regional capital, Assosa, where GERD is located told ENA that the dam is a pride for the present generation and a treasured legacy for future generations.

Seid Muhammad, a resident of the city, said the dam exemplifies the remarkable capability of Ethiopians to unite and achieve their goals.

This pride stems from the contribution of all citizens who have come together with shared commitment and resources, he noted.

Seid also praised the unwavering support of the people, highlighting the mature leadership and determination of the government that has been instrumental in navigating the challenges and pressures faced throughout this journey.

The other resident, Alharem Muhammad, said the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam embodies the pride of Ethiopians and symbolizes a promising future for the nation.

On his part, Kefale Ademe stated that the dam is not just a national asset but also a testament to the strength and resilience of the Ethiopian people.

He further emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation and engagement in initiatives like the Green Legacy Initiative and other sectors to ensure the sustainable safety of the dam.
