Israeli Health Professionals Offering Trainings to Physicians Drawn from Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 18, 2025 (ENA)—Israeli medical professionals are offering advanced training on comprehensive anesthesiology and life-supporting techniques to health professionals drawn from eight hospitals in Addis Ababa.

One-week training is being held at Alert Hospital Comprehensive Specialized Hospital.

 The training is a collaborative effort between MASHAV, Israel’s international development agency, and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC).

 With the full support of Ethiopia's Ministry of Health, the initiative will train approximately 100 physicians and medical staff from about eight hospitals in Addis Ababa.

 Speaking at the opening ceremony today, Israel's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Avraham Neguise, highlighted the deep-rooted historical and traditional relationship between the two nations.

 ''The Embassy of Israel in Ethiopia and MASHAB are proud to support this activity as part of Israel's commitment to strengthening our long-standing relationship with Ethiopia in the field of health,” the ambassador added.

 This ongoing collaboration is a testament to the strong, long-standing ties between the two nations, which extend beyond political and economic interests to include historical and cultural connections, he added.

 Adam Goldstein from Israel's Wolfson Medical Center expressed his honor in being part of the program, calling it a true partnership.

 He noted the mutual exchange of knowledge, stating that the Israeli team learns as much from their Ethiopian counterparts as they are able to share.

Goldstein also emphasized the critical role of medicine in saving lives, especially during times of global challenges.

Dr. Shimelis Gezahegn, CEO of Alert Hospital, on his part, expressed deep gratitude for the support, noting this is the sixth-round training.

 He also emphasized that the hospital has received crucial medical equipment from its Israeli partners.

 The CEO also said the collaborative effort to establish a new spine treatment center with Israeli support at Alert Hospital.
