Addis Ababa, August 2, 2025 (ENA)— There is a need to reinforce collaborations at the global level to realize smart agriculture and ensure sustainable food systems, Uzbekistan's Agriculture Minister Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov stressed.
The Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4), which was held from July 27–29, concluded successfully in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with a focus on transforming food systems for sustainable development.
The three-day event, co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy, brought together leaders, experts, and stakeholders to evaluate progress since the first summit in 2021 and to outline future actions.
After attending the summit, Uzbekistan's Agriculture Minister Abdurakhmonov told ENA that collaborating on technological advancement is essential to ensure agricultural production and productivity and food systems.
To diminish hunger and ensure food production, all governments and companies are obviously interested in having good production and increasing productivity, he said.
“We have to bring new technologies for agriculture that increase productivity, help us for logistics, sharing the food, and marketing, among others.”
Stating the crucial role of marketing, he said it is important to discuss how to market, share the foods, and distribute while producing.
However, the Minister added that when we think about food production, bringing new technologies, and realizing smart agriculture is essential.
“Coming from Uzbekistan, Central Asia, we suffer more climate change issues lately, hot weather, water scarcity, and so forth.”
Therfore, "we have to be more creative and use imagination to realize smart agriculture," he added.
Abdurakhmonov finally urged all to follow a scientific approach to advance agricultural production and food systems.
