Ethiopia Steadily Advances Toward Historic One-Day Goal of Planting 700 Million Trees

Addis Ababa, July 31, 2025 (ENA)— With just a few hours remaining, as of 1:00 PM local time, Ethiopia has already planted over 517.3 million tree seedlings in a single-day nationwide Green Legacy Initiative campaign—moving steadily toward its ambitious target of 700 million trees.

“A few more hours have remained to meet our target #Ethiopia,” according to Office of the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, in the early morning hours, unveiled the start of Ethiopia’s unprecedented one-day tree planting campaign, aiming to plant 700 million seedlings across the nation.

Ethiopians from all walks of life have united today in a historic nationwide tree-planting campaign, aiming to set a new milestone by planting 700 million saplings in a single day.

ENA learned that  that millions across the East African nation turned out from dawn to dusk to break their own record by planting targeted saplings as part of Ethiopia’s ambitious Green Legacy Initiative.

Accordingly, Government Communication Service disclosed that by 1:00 PM, over 517.3 tree seedlings have already been planted across Ethiopia in this single day Green Legacy Initiative campaign.
