So Exited to Plant Seedlings, Says Teenager
Addis Ababa, July 31, 2025 (ENA) -- Sekina Yimam is a teenage girl living in Dessie town, Amhara region.

The little girl added that she would provide care to nurture the seedlings until they fully sprout.
Ethiopians are turning in millions across the country to break a new record of planting 700 million saplings from dawn to dusk in 2025 Green Legacy Initiative.
Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative stands as a transformative model of climate resilience and environmental stewardship to combat land degradation and climate change mitigation.
The Green Legacy Initiative since its inception in 2019 has made tremendous strides, with Ethiopia on track to plant approximately 48 billion trees by the end of this rainy season, positioning the country as a global leader in large-scale greening restoration efforts.
Coordinator of the National Green Legacy Technical Committee, Adefris Worku elaborated today that the seedlings stock prepared for this year’s program comprise 3.2 billion forest tree seedlings and 4.3 billion mixed forest species, intended to bolster restoration of the ecosystem.
Moreover, approximately 632 million fruit-bearing seedlings have been readied to enhance food security and promote nutritional diversity among communities, Adefris added.
Adefris also disclosed that seedlings have been transplanted roughly from 116,000 nursery sites nationwide, where over 2 million hectares of ecologically damaged land have been identified for restoration under the program.
Furthermore, Adefris mentioned that 668,000 hectares of mapped land have been identified, and 294,000 hectares of land have been prepared specifically for today's One-Day program.
