The Second UN Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4) will take place from July 27–29, 2025, in Addis Ababa.

Ethiopia has been selected to host the UN Food Systems Summit, in collaboration with the Government of Italy and the United Nations considering its encouraging achievements in its endeavors towards ensuring food sovereignty.

This calls attention to Ethiopia's role in bilateral and multilateral relations, and encourages the effective initiatives it has launched in food systems, according to a statement issued by the Government Communication Service today.

The directions set at the First World Food Summit four years ago will be reviewed at the summit hosted by Ethiopia, and directions will be set.

The summit will also address the critical issues of eradicating hunger, fighting climate change, and identify the measures needed to be taken to move forward.

Ethiopia is hosting the summit at a time when it has embarked on a journey of rejuvenation by recording many achievements, the statement noted, adding that it also has many achievements to share.

It has registered successes in summer wheat cultivation through irrigation, Bounty of the Basket Initiative, and Green Legacy Initiative.

In addition, it has set a worldwide model in addressing climate change by planting over 40 billion seedlings in recent years.

The seedlings will not only aid in fighting climate change but will also contribute to enhancing food security and nutrition.

The opportunity given to Ethiopia to host the summit is recognition of this initiative.

The summit will be attended by heads of state, ministers, scientists, food producers, elders, youth, women’s organizations, representatives of the private sector and civil societies, it was learned.

With the transformed looks of Addis Ababa, the statement finally pointed out that Ethiopia is ready to warmly welcome guests and looks forward to sharing its many achievements.
