Indian Investor Urges Global Investors to Seize Business Opportunities in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, July 25, 2025 (ENA) -- Indian investor and long-time resident of Ethiopia, Rajeev Sharma, has expressed strong confidence in Ethiopia’s economic resilience, ongoing growth, and future potential, urging global investors to seize the country’s emerging opportunities.

According to the General Manager of Anmol Products Ethiopia PLC, the company started investing in Ethiopia in 2007 with 6 million USD and now employs over 300 people, “thanks to local support.”

“Our success story would not have been possible without the people of Ethiopia and the support of the Ethiopian government. When there are challenges, there is also great potential,” he added.

His group has since expanded into another venture, Eco-Packaging PLC, capitalizing on Ethiopia’s strategic advantages — such as a young population, abundant natural resources, and ongoing economic reforms, he added.

“We are confident in Ethiopia’s economy, and what motivated us to invest in Ethiopia is its large and youthful population as well as its strong human capital.”

Moreover the ongoing reforms, such as the Homegrown Economic Reform Program and the revised foreign exchange policies, are investor-friendly policies that encourage investment in Ethiopia, ” the General Manager elaborated.

He further noted that Ethiopia offers huge potential for investors with one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, a young population, and a strategic location linking Africa and the Middle East.

The country’s rich natural resources — fertile land, hydropower, and minerals, combined with government reforms in telecom, finance, and energy, are fostering a business-friendly environment.

Major infrastructure projects like industrial parks and transport networks are positioning Ethiopia as a regional manufacturing and logistics hub, presenting untapped markets and strong long-term growth opportunities.

Sharma’s group has subsequently launched Eco Packaging Industry PLC in Shaggar City, Oromia Region, two years ago.

He noted that there is huge potential for the paper packaging industry in Ethiopia as a sustainable and eco-friendly solution since the federal government is now committed to replacing plastic with paper.

“We fully trust the vision of the Honorable Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who is leading growth with a focus on the environment. We plan to expand further in eco-friendly packaging,” the General Manager added.

As Ethiopia aims to strengthen its industrial and export base, he emphasized the importance of self-reliance and local production, calling for more efforts in this area.

The Indian investor finally extended his message to international investors, encouraging them to harness the potential of investing in Ethiopia, which would create a win-win situation for both the investors and the country.
