Ethiopia Successfully Demonstrated its Position at BRICS Summit Focusing on its Nat’l Interests, Principle of Non-Interference

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2025 (ENA) -- Ethiopia has successfully demonstrated its position at the 17th BRICS Summit, emphasizing on its national interests and the principle of non-interference, Government Communication Service Minister, Legesse Tulu said.
Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, along with his delegation, participated at the summit held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Government Communication Service Minister, Legesse Tulu said in a statement regarding the summit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed traveled to Rio de Janeiro with the aim of participating in the summit and strengthening bilateral relations through discussions with the leaders of various countries.
Among the major agendas discussed by the leaders was an inclusive and equitable global governance system and reform, the Minister added.
Prime Minister Abiy emphasized the importance of Africa's voice being equally represented in all international institutions. He further stated that Africa should not only be heard, but its level of participation must also be enhanced.
In his remarks on strengthening South-South cooperation, the Prime Minister said that Ethiopia, a country with a long history of civilization, diverse culture, is committed to bolstering its collaboration with other countries and gaining insights from their experiences, Legesse noted.
Concerning the economic and financial sectors, Prime Minister Abiy further stated that Ethiopia is reaping the benefits of its partnership with BRICS.
The BRICS Development Bank serves as a financial institution that provides an alternative to the unequal access to finance and credit on a global scale, which would be advantageous for Ethiopia, the premier emphasized.
Digitalization and artificial intelligence were also other topics of discussion, the Government Communication Service Minister pointed out.
Prime Minister Abiy underscored the necessity of collaboration to leverage the opportunities presented by the digital realm while also addressing the associated risks.
He highlighted that Ethiopia is engaged in significant efforts in artificial intelligence and is seeking to partner with BRICS nations in this domain.
Concerning climate change, the Prime Minister stated that Ethiopia is not merely engaging in discussions, but is also demonstrating a practical example for the world to follow.
Government Communication Service Minister, Legese Tulu finally remarked that Ethiopia has effectively engaged in the BRICS Summit by demonstrating its position emphasizing on its national interests and the principle of non-interference.
