Ethiopia Keen to Further Strengthen Its Long-standing, Multifaceted Ties with Comoros: President Taye Atske Selassie
Addis Ababa, July 6, 2025 (ENA) --- Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie underscored that efforts will be made to further strengthen the long-standing and multifaceted relations between Ethiopia and Comoros.
Today, Comoros celebrated 50th anniversary of its Independence Day with a grand ceremony attended by leaders and dignitaries from various countries, as well as thousands of its citizens.
Ethiopian President Taye Atske Selassie, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, MPresident of Mauritius, Dharambeer Gokhool, as well as representatives from Senegal, Madagascar, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, France, and other countries were among the attendees.
President Taye remarked that Ethiopia's presence at this Independence Day demonstrates the enhanced bilateral relations between the two countries.
He told ENA that efforts will be made to further strengthen the long-standing and multifaceted relations between Ethiopia and Comoros.
Additionally, the president affirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to strengthening ties with other African countries to promote continental integration.
In his address on the occasion, the President of Comoros, Azali Assoumani, stated that the individuals who dedicated themselves to the anti-colonial struggle merit respect.
He remarked that the advancements made over the past 50 years since gaining independence have elevated the nation to a more favorable historical position, ENA reported from Moroni.The president further highlighted that encouraging outcomes have been observed in the sectors of education, health, income, tourism, and infrastructure.
The President, who held the position of Chairperson of the African Union for the duration of one year, 2023/2024, stated that Comoros has been fulfilling its role in promoting peace, security, and unity across Africa.
He also encouraged the populace to recognize that this is the moment for enhanced political stability and to concentrate on development.
Assoumani specifically appealed to the youth to engage in efforts aimed at modernizing, securing, and advancing the nation's economy by participating in the digital economy.
The President emphasized that Comoros benefits greatly from the income generated by the diaspora and urged the diaspora to seize the favorable opportunities available in the country. He encouraged them to invest in their homeland to foster economic growth, which is a pressing concern for Comoros.
