Prime Minister Abiy Unveils Ethiopia’s First-Ever Gas Export Set to Launch Soon

Addis Ababa, July 3, 2025 (ENA)—Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has disclosed that Ethiopia will commence its first-ever gas export in the near future, marking a historic milestone in the nation’s economic transformation.

Briefing the Members of the parliament (MPs), the Premier recalled that Ethiopia had previously attempted to explore and export natural gas during the eras of the Emperor, the Derg, and the EPRDF, but none of those efforts came to fruition.

Prime Minister Abiy stated that his administration has partnered with new companies for gas exploration, positioning the country for its first-ever gas exports.

 

The Prime Minister revealed that the gas development plans initiated in recent years have now been successfully completed.

 With the first phase of the gas initiative finalized, the Prime Minister indicated that an official inauguration is expected in the near future.

Following the completion of the first phase, the second phase of the gas project will also be launched in due course.
