South Korea Eyes Further Expanded Investment in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, June 26, 2025 (ENA)— South Korea's National Assembly Deputy Speaker Joo Ho-Young has affirmed his country’s commitment to further deepening its long-standing friendship with Ethiopia through enhanced investment cooperation.

President Taye Atske Selassie has received the parliamentary delegation led by the Deputy Speaker today.

National Assembly of South Korea Deputy Speaker Joo Ho-Young is on an official visit to Ethiopia.

It is worth recalling that Ethiopia played a significant role during the Korean War six decades ago, standing in solidarity with South Korea and making great sacrifices in defense of peace and freedom on the Korean Peninsula.

The blood-forged friendship between Ethiopia and South of Korea has now grown stronger more than ever, evolving into a robust partnership marked by extensive trade, economic cooperation, and diplomatic relations.

As part of the deepening diplomatic ties between the two nations, a delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly is currently on an official visit to Ethiopia.

Speaking to ENA, the Deputy Speaker stated that he has expressed his country’s deep respect and gratitude for Ethiopia’s sacrifices in support of peace on the Korean Peninsula during his meeting with President Taye.

"Our discussion began by paying tribute to the sacrifices made by Ethiopia during the Korean War. We then reviewed the development support projects that South Korea is currently implementing in Ethiopia."

Then were presented potential investment opportunities in Ethiopia and the support the South Korean side hopes to receive from the Ethiopian side, Ho-Young added.

The Deputy Speaker also expressed South Korea’s desire to further enhance cooperation with Ethiopia in the spheres of development.

In response, President Taye Atske Selassie reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to deepening the longstanding ties between the two countries.

Ho-Young further pointed out that the delegation engaged in activities that contributed to strengthening economic and investment relations between the two countries during its visit to Ethiopia.

“Over the course of our four-day stay, we visited several South Korean-supported projects, including schools and hospitals as well as the Korean War Veterans Memorial. Notably, we had meaningful conversations with Ethiopian veterans who served during the Korean War.

In addition, we held discussions with South Korean business representatives involved in various investment sectors across Ethiopia,” he stated.

Ambassador Tizta Mulugeta, Head of the Office of the President, who attended the discussion, stated that President Taye Atske Selassie assured the delegation that the Ethiopian government is committed to providing the necessary support for South Korean investors seeking to expand their investments in Ethiopia.
