U.S. President Trump Announces Ceasefire between Israel, Iran

Addis Ababa, June, 24, 2025 (ENA)—U.S. President Donald Trump said early Tuesday that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran was now “in effect.”

His announcement came shortly after an Iranian missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which houses US troops.

“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR,’” Trump wrote in a social media post.

Iran had launched a fresh barrage of missiles at Israel as the ceasefire deadline announced by Trump neared.

A spate of questions linger over the viability of a ceasefire, Iran and Israel’s participation, the potential resumption of nuclear talks between the West and Tehran, and the ultimate fate of Iran’s supplies of enriched uranium.

The ceasefire announcement takes place after an apparent intensification of hostilities, with Iran on Monday carrying out retaliatory missile strikes at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

“THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social around.

Following Trump's announcement, Israel said they had achieved their goals and confirmed the suspension of fighting.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later posted to X that no "agreement" had been reached on a ceasefire with Israel at this time.

Trump previously thanked Tehran for giving the US advance notice of its limited attack on a US air base in Qatar on Monday.

The Iranian strikes were a response to US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend.

The Israeli Prime Minister's office has released a statement confirming the suspension of fighting with Iran.

"After the operation's goals have been reached, and in full coordination with US President Trump, Israel has agreed to the President's offer for a bilateral ceasefire," the statement read.

According to the statement, the two "existential" threats — Iran's nuclear program and its ballistic missiles — were "removed," with Israel adding that the country would respond "fiercely" to every violation of the ceasefire.
