Collaborating with Competing Parties Key to Stability, Dev't of Ethiopia, Says PM

Addis Ababa, June 20, 2025 (ENA)— Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has emphasized the importance of collaboration among competing political parties to ensure the stability and development of Ethiopia.

Speaking during a discussion with representatives of competing political parties from across the country, the PM said collaboration is important in preparing for the conduct of election that must be more democratic, participatory, and inclusive than the sixth national election.

 The premier pledged that his government will work to make the election inclusive, and also help competing parties to come together to get support.

 Reaffirming Prosperity Party’s commitment to competing based on its vision, he stressed that a one-party parliament does not serve Ethiopia’s best interest.

 According to him, it is better for the country when competing parties participate meaningfully. Just as we strive to win, we also support a competitive and pluralistic political environment, he added.

 The PM underscored that supporting and engaging with competing  parties is necessary, stating that mutual cooperation would lead to a more inclusive parliament and government.

 

 He further stated that his government is ready to expand the political space, adding that working together is essential to strengthen and develop Ethiopia even if we disagree on many issues.

 Ethiopia will hold more inclusive and democratic elections than in the past, despite opposition from some quarters, the premier pointed out.

 Also, we will continue to develop corridors, expand wheat production, inaugurate the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, and hold elections that reflect the will of the people,” he underscored.

 Addressing concerns raised by party representatives regarding local issues, the Prime Minister promised to work with regional leaders to resolve them through dialogue.

Concluding his remarks, Prime Minister Abiy stated that the era of threats to Ethiopia’s sovereignty and existence is over.

 No one can bring Ethiopia to its knees; Ethiopia is one, and it will remain one.
