AUC Chairperson Taking Part in Mattei Plan Summit in Rome, Italy

Addis Ababa, June 20, 2025 (ENA)— African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, along with several African leaders, is taking part in the Mattei Plan Summit hosted in Rome, Italy.

The Summit brought together African states participating in the Lobito Corridor alongside multilateral financial institutions, it was learned.

 

The Chairperson welcomes the opportunity to strengthen joint efforts under the Mattei Plan and the Global Gateway, fully aligned with Africa’s Agenda 2063 and he African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) objectives.

Italian Prime Giorgia Meloni today opened a Rome summit on her country’s ambitious Mattei Plan for Africa to work tighter on illegal migration from Africa saying that "by strengthening Africa we strengthen Europe".

 

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is attending the summit at Villa Doria Pamphilj titled "The Mattei Plan for Africa and the Global Gateway: A common effort with the African Continent".
