Ethiopia, UN Sign 6.5 billion USD New Development Cooperation Framework (2025-2030)

Addis Ababa, June 20, 2025 (ENA)—The government of Ethiopia and the United Nations in Ethiopia have officially signed the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) for the period 2025-2030.
The signing of the framework has signaled a renewed partnership aimed at advancing Ethiopia's development priorities and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The signing ceremony was attended by State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew and Ramiz Alakbarov, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia alongside heads of various UN agencies operating in Ethiopia.
The cooperation framework represents renewed commitment of the UN development system to support Ethiopia’s development endeavors and address its urgent challenges through a comprehensive approach.
The framework is also anticipated to promote resilience, inclusivity and sustainable growth in Ethiopia by strengthening resilience to climate change and economic shocks, building sustainable food systems and improving livelihoods, among others.
An estimated 6.5 billion USD is required to fully implement the cooperation framework over five years.
Currently, approximately 1.5 billion USD has been mobilized, it was indicated.
Singing the agreement, State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew said the framework agreement is a reaffirmation of the enduring partnership between Ethiopia and the United Nations.
Similarly, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator Ramiz Alakbarov affirmed that the framework underscores UN's strong commitment in supporting Ethiopia's development aspirations.
The UN development system in Ethiopia has identified major critical priorities structured around five strategic pillars-peace and governance, Economic Development, Social Services, Environmental Sustainability, and Gender Equality and Empowerment.
The framework is scheduled to commence in July 2025, with the government of Ethiopia reaffirming its commitment to its effective implementation.
