Making Work Culture Crucial for Ethiopia's Transformation: Labor and Skills Minister

Addis Ababa, June 19, 2025 (ENA) --- Increasing productivity by making work a culture should be a matter of survival in bringing about fundamental change in Ethiopia, Labor and Skills Minister Muferihat Kamil said.
A panel discussion organized by Ministry of Labor and Skills, in collaboration with the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA), is underway under the theme "Work Culture and Productivity for National Sovereignty".
The panel aims to raise awareness among stakeholders about their crucial role in improving work culture, creating job opportunities, and developing skills in order to realize national growth.
During the event, Labor and Skills Minister Muferihat Kamil emphasized the need for cultivating a strong work culture to attain economic self-sufficiency.
Making work a deeply ingrained culture is a matter of survival for Ethiopia to achieve fundamental change and become competitive on the global stage, she reiterated.
The minister further highlighted the necessity of a shift in work culture to ensure complete economic sovereignty, adding that ongoing efforts to achieve this goal will be strengthened.
According to her, the work culture, starting from the family unit, needs to be transformed to foster growth by utilizing local resources.
Muferihat stated that the goal of building a robust work culture can only be achieved when the consciousness of the society is raised.
To this end, the ministry is conducting consultations aimed at fostering a change in mind set regarding family and community productivity.
The minister urged everyone to play their part in strengthening the successful initiatives launched in previous years.
Ethiopian News Agency CEO Seife Deribe, for his part, underscored the importance of holding experience-sharing and awareness-raising forums continuously to build a strong work culture in Ethiopia.
He noted that expanding stakeholder awareness on the importance of building a work culture is crucial for ensuring national prosperity; and today's forum plays a significant role in achieving this objective.
The CEO said that ENA is actively working on national consensus-building issues, beyond news and news-related content.
