Ethiopia to Host 10th African Public Service Day

Addis Ababa, June 19, 2025 (ENA) --- The 10th Continental African Public Service Day (APSD) will be held from 21 - 23rd June 2025, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The event is organized by the African Union and Ethiopia's Federal Civil Service Commission with a theme “Enhancing the agility and resilience of public institutions to achieve equitable governance and rapidly address historical service delivery gaps”.
Aligned with the overarching 2025 AU theme: "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations," the theme is grounded in the understanding that strong and adaptable public institutions are essential for tackling Africa’s historical injustices and promoting long-term resilience.
The enduring legacies of colonialism, slavery, apartheid, and systemic marginalization have resulted in significant socio-economic inequalities that persistently hinder inclusive development throughout the continent.
Public institutions are crucial in tackling these historical service delivery deficiencies by promoting extensive policy reforms, guaranteeing fair service distribution, and encouraging responsive, inclusive governance.
By enhancing their agility and resilience, public institutions can successfully propel the transformation agenda and create a more equitable future for all Africans and the Global African Diaspora.
Briefing the media today, Commissioner of Civil Service, Mekuria Haile noted that sharing experiences among member countries, discussing on issues aimed to archive a robust institution, creating an institution that has the capacity to conduct monitoring, designs a policy framework that is inclusive and problem solving are among the objectives.
Over 1,200 participants from across Africa and beyond are expected to participate in discussions and activities aimed at transforming public service.
The commissioner added that the APSD fosters reflection on the mission, challenges, and achievements of the public service and promotes innovation and efficiency in service delivery.
Held at both national and continental levels, the 10th Continental APSD seeks to build on past successes by focusing on advancing justice and reparations to strengthen Africa's resilience, it was indicated.
By emphasizing justice and reparations, the APSD aims to address historical injustices and systemic inequalities that hinder progress, thereby fostering a more equitable and resilient society.
Accordingly, this focus encourages public institutions to implement transformative policies that prioritize citizen engagement, transparency, and responsive governance, ultimately contributing to Africa’s socio-economic growth and long-term stability.
The successful implementation of the 2025 APSD theme is expected to result in strengthened and inclusive institutional frameworks that effectively support justice and reparations processes, with a focus on addressing systemic inequalities affecting marginalized groups, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and rural communities, it was learned.
