President Taye Inaugurates 22 Projects at Gondar University

Addis Ababa, June 15, 2025 (ENA) --- President Taye Atske-Selassie officially inaugurated 22 projects built by University of Gondar today.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by high-ranking federal and regional officials, including Speaker of the House of Federation Agegnehu Teshager and Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.

The University has inaugurated these projects, valued at over 4 billion Birr, to render services to the public as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations and the 100th anniversary of its teaching hospital.

Among the notable projects are a cancer radiation therapy center, a medical oxygen production plant, a prosthetics manufacturing facility, a pre-clinical laboratory, community schools, campus developments designed to foster innovation and research, and initiatives focused on digitalization and system automation.

These projects are expected to have significant national and community benefits. They are also seen as crucial in realizing the university's vision of becoming a leading center for research, education, and community service in Africa.

During the inauguration ceremony, President Taye Atske-Selassie conveyed a message stating that the University of Gondar is at a historical juncture.

He called on the University should strive to maintain the quality of educational and strengthen its community ties to elevate Ethiopia's name and honor globally.

The President remarked that the university's hospital has served as a medical beacon and a symbol of healing and recovery for the local community for a century, in addition to being a center of excellence that has produced renowned professionals.

The President highlighted that the university's journey of knowledge and education, which began 70 years ago, has been successful in generating solutions and citizens vital for the nation's well-being.

He also noted that the university has achieved significant and commendable progress in the past decade.

President Taye attributed this success to the collaborative efforts between the university's leadership and the community, emphasizing the need to strengthen and uphold this synergy of modernization.

He also lauded the extraordinary sense of ownership of community of Gondar to the university, describing it a special example for Ethiopians' journey towards unity.
