AUC, UNHCR Stress Importance of Dev’t Driven Approach to Empower Displaced Populations  

Addis Ababa, June 12, 2025 (ENA) -- Chairperson of the AU Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf met with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi this morning.

On the occasion, the two sides exchanged views on the regional displacement context and reaffirmed the imperative for coherent & coordinated regional & international responses.

The Chairperson welcomed UNHCR’s continued partnership with the AU.

They both underscored the importance of development-driven, sustainable approaches that empower displaced populations and promote self-reliance, while calling on international partners & governments to enhance their support.
