Ethiopian Muslims Celebrating Eid al-Adha

Addis A baba, June 06, 2025 9ENA)—Ethiopian Muslim communities across the country are celebrating the 1446th Eid al-Adha.

Hundreds of thousands gathered to celebrate the holiday in the capital Addis Ababa and other major cities of the country.

As Eid al-Adha is celebrated with love, unity and brotherhood, the Muslim community have been urged to preserve their Ethiopian unity and brotherhood.


 

The Muslim community is celebrating Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic holiday, and those able to are performing the Hajj pilgrimage.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the "Feast of Sacrifice," is celebrated to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son.

 The holiday involves prayer, feasting, and acts of charity, and it is particularly significant as it marks the climax of the Hajj pilgrimage.


 

Most importantly, it honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah's command.

The act of sacrifice is carried out following the Eid Prayers, which are performed in congregation at the nearest Mosque on the morning of Eid and consists of slaughtering an animal as a sacrifice to mark this occasion in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice for Allah.
