Council of Ministers Approves About 2-trillion Birr Budget for Upcoming Ethiopian Fiscal Year

Addis Ababa, June 5, 2025 (ENA) -- The Council of Ministers has approved close to 2-trillion Birr budget for the upcoming 2018 Ethiopian Fiscal Year (EFY) and referred it to the House of People's Representatives.
In its 47th regular session today, the Council discussed the federal government draft budget proclamation and a draft startup proclamation.
First, the Council discussed the budget that aims to achieve the national goals, namely protecting national security, boosting production and productivity, and providing assistance for citizens displaced by natural and man-made disasters.
The draft budget is prepared based on the 2018-2022 EFY mid-term macroeconomic and fiscal framework and the program budget permanence evaluation of 2017 EFY, it was learned.
Accordingly, close to two-trillion Birr draft budget for the federal government recurrent spending, capital expenditure, subsidies for regional states, and implementation of sustainable development goals, was presented to the Council.
After thoroughly deliberating and incorporating inputs, the Council unanimously endorsed the Federal Government draft budget Proclamation for Ethiopian Fiscal Year 2018, and referred it to the House of People's Representatives.
Next, the Council deliberated on a draft startup proclamation that aims to establish a conducive ecosystem that enables innovative startups to operate, produce new products, render services, and access finance.
Following discussions, the Council unanimously referred the draft proclamations to the House of People's Representatives.
