President Receives Credentials of New Ambassadors, Hold Talks on Trade and Investment

Addis Ababa, June 3, 2025 (ENA) -- President Taye Atske Selassie held talks today with nine newly appointed ambassadors on ways of strengthening cooperation in trade, investment and other spheres.
The president, who received letters of credence from ambassadors of Australia, Cuba, Algeria, Gambia, Georgia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cyprus, had wide ranging discussions.
Briefing the media on the talks, Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Nebiat Getachew said the president discussed issues related to cooperation in trade and investment, among others.
Discussions were also held about opening embassies in Addis Ababa by the countries that do not have embassies in the capital city, he added.
Cuba's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Meylin Suárez Álvarez, stated that Ethiopia and Cuba have strong historical ties, affirming strong commitment to taking this relationship to a higher level and strengthening cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture, education, and health.
Gambia's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Salimatta E. T. Touray, said Ethiopia and Gambia have profound ties, reiterating commitment to carrying out endeavors to further consolidate relations between the countries.
Similarly, Cyprus Ambassador to Ethiopia, Savvas Vladimirou, said Ethiopia is a strategic partner of Cyprus, pledging to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations between the countries.
On her part, the Non-resident Ambassador of Thailand to Ethiopia, Morakot Janemathukorn, promised to work in collaboration with Ethiopia on culture, technology, and trade further noting that Ethiopia and Thailand have abundant potentials to strengthen their relations.
