NEBE Making Preparations for Upcoming General Elections

Addis Ababa, June 2, 2025 (ENA)—Preliminary preparations are being made for the upcoming 7th general elections to be held next Ethiopian year, according to National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE).

NEBE Board Chairperson Melatwork Hailu gave briefings regarding the preliminary preparations and related issues about the general elections.

According to her, the board is undertaking various preliminary preparations for the upcoming general elections to be held in 2026.

She stated that an amended Ethiopian Electoral, Political Parties Registration and Election’s Code of Conduct Proclamation No.1162/2019 is submitted to the House of People's Representatives for endorsement.

Among the provisions of the proclamation include the registration of candidates virtually, the chair added.

 Candidates can register virtually from wherever they are, she added.

 Preparations of over 50,00 polling stations to make them conducive for the electorates across the country has also begun.

She also said that preparations are underway to recruit elections officers virtually who will participate in the elections.
