Fayda Digital Identity Testament to Ethiopia’s Commitment to Inclusive Growth, Modernization: Nat'l ID Program Director-General

Addis Ababa, May 20, 2025 (ENA) -- The Fayda digital identity stands as a testament to Ethiopia’s commitment to inclusive growth and modernization, the Ethiopian National ID Program Director-General Yodahe Arayaselassie said.

In his remarks at the opening of the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of ID4Africa, the director-general emphasized the significance of the Fayda digital identity system as a symbol of Ethiopia's dedication to inclusive growth and modernization.

With Fayda currently serving 15 million Ethiopian citizens, Yodahe said the initiative transcends mere statistics.

“The story of Fayda is not merely about numbers. It is about building what we proudly call the Ethiopian stake. The comprehensive digital infrastructure forms the backbone of our nation’s digital future.

According to him, this achievement did not happen by chance, it is the result of three fundamental pillars that guided our journey.

“First and foremost the unwavering political leadership; the second, technical excellence with purpose it has seen as leverage local expertise to customize open for solutions effectively; the third and an important pillar of our success has been our strategic partnership,” he explained.


 

Yodahe noted that Ethiopia has embraced digital transformation as a necessity rather than a luxury, positioning Fayda as a catalyst for development, resilience, and dignity for all citizens.

As we continue this journey, we remain dedicated to ensuring that digital identity serves as a catalyst for development, resilience and dignity for all Ethiopians.”

The impact of Fayda has been profound, resulting in up to a 60 percent reduction in service delivery times and significantly enhancing financial inclusion.

The system has streamlined access to services across both public and private sectors, making daily transactions more efficient and accessible for all Ethiopians.
