President Taye Says New Cement Factories Creating Conducive Environment for Construction Sector

Addis Ababa, May 20, 2025 (ENA) -- The commissioning of new cement factories in Ethiopia is creating a favorable opportunity for developers engaged in the construction sector, President Taye Atseke Selassie said today.

The president made the remark while inaugurating the expansion project of Pioneer Cement Manufacturing Plc in Dire Dawa city.

During the ceremony, President Taye highlighted the multifaceted benefits of the Pioneer Cement Factory, which was built through a partnership between Ethiopian and Chinese investors for the growth of Ethiopia's construction sector.

He emphasized that the collaboration between Ethiopian and foreign investors in the construction sector signifies the potential for knowledge transfer, capital inflow, and enhanced productivity.

Previously, the construction sector faced complex challenges in acquiring necessary inputs, the president said, adding that the entry of new cement factories, however, is now creating a more conducive environment for developers.

Taye further stressed that expanding investment in the construction sector is not only viable but also accelerates the nation's ongoing development journey.

He commended the Pioneer Cement Factory for fulfilling its social responsibility through job creation, knowledge development, and technology transfer.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Mines Minister Habtamu Tegegn, Dire Dawa City Mayor Kedir Juhar, and other officials.
