Ethiopia, China Sign MOU to Collaborate on Agricultural Research

Addis Ababa, May 12, 2025 (ENA) --- The Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR) and the Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences (BAAFS) have signed an MoU to boost agricultural research and biotechnology collaboration.
The MoU was signed today at EIAR headquarters by Prof. Nigussie Dechassa, Director General of EIAR, and Wu Baoxin, President of BAAFS. This followed a series of discussions between leaders and experts from both institutions.
At the signing ceremony, Prof. Nigussie emphasized that the agreement establishes a mutually beneficial partnership focused on key areas such as AI-driven agricultural research for improved crop resilience and productivity, biotechnology for sustainable farming, agricultural data science, and agricultural economics to support evidence-based policymaking.
President Wu Baoxin emphasized that the agreement is a significant step towards modernizing agriculture in both countries.
He added that the partnership will greatly strengthen research and technological collaboration between the two institutions.
Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences is renowned in China for its research on germplasm resources, genetic breeding, and the cultivation of fruit trees, particularly those grown in northern China, such as peach, grape, strawberry, apricot, apple, and cherry.
