Ethiopia’s Macroeconomic Overhaul Boosting Foreign Investment, Says Investment Chief

Addis Ababa, May 12, 2025 (ENA) --- Ethiopia’s ongoing macroeconomic reforms are significantly enhancing the country's appeal to foreign investors, according to Zeleke Temesgen, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC).

Speaking to ENA, Commissioner Zeleke emphasized that considerable efforts have been made to promote Ethiopia’s vast investment potential on the global stage.

These efforts, he noted, have already begun to deliver tangible results, with a marked increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows.

He also attributed the improved investment climate to updated laws, regulatory reforms, and the government’s clear commitment to economic transformation.

Priority sectors such as agriculture, mining, tourism, manufacturing, and ICT are at the forefront of the investment agenda, with targeted initiatives underway to attract capital into these areas.

A key driver of the recent investment surge, the commissioner noted, has been the liberalization of the import-export, wholesale, and retail trade sectors, now open to foreign investors, creating significant new opportunities.

Despite challenges, Ethiopia’s investment environment remains resilient and continues on an upward trajectory.

The Commissioner also underscored the macroeconomic reform program as a central pillar in fostering a favorable climate for investment and stimulating FDI growth.

Both domestic and international investors are increasingly active across diverse sectors, he confirmed, adding that the government remains firmly committed to supporting all investors operating in Ethiopia.
