Macroeconomic Reform Brought Significant Changes in Manufacturing Sector : Industry Minister  

Addis Ababa, May 4, 2025 (ENA) – The implementation of Ethiopia's macroeconomic reform has allowed the country to enhance the productivity of its manufacturing sector, Minister of Industry, Melaku Alebel remarked.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed officially inaugurated the 3rd Made in Ethiopia Expo at the Addis Africa International Convention and Exhibition Center on Saturday.

The expo highlights Ethiopia's industrial capabilities under the Made in Ethiopia movement launched to accelerate the growth of manufacturing.

A panel discussion was held as part of the five-day event titled 'Ethiopia's Manufacturing Sector during the Macroeconomic Reform Era: Opportunities and Challenges.'

Minister Melaku remarked at the panel discussion that the macroeconomic reform in Ethiopia has significantly improved the efficiency of its manufacturing industries.

Specifically, he highlighted the progress made in strengthening product development and competitiveness.

Additionally, the minister noted the improvements registered in the integration of inputs and products through the promotion of export trade and import substitution.

As a result of these macroeconomic reform initiatives, Ethiopia has successfully substituted 3.1 billion USD worth of goods during the last nine months of the fiscal year.

The Minister further indicated that the cornerstone of this achievement is the macroeconomic reform, which has facilitated improvements in production capacity and competitiveness.
