Prime Minister Abiy Launches “Made in Ethiopia 2025” Expo

Addis Ababa, April 3, 2025 (ENA)—The “Made in Ethiopia 2025” Expo, officially launched today in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, will run for five days and features 288 local producers showcasing their products.

Now in its third year, the “Made in Ethiopia” movement has already delivered promising results, according to Office of the Prime Minister (PMO).

Key highlights on Encouraging Results of  the “Made in Ethiopia” Movement


 

*Annual sector growth increased from 4.8% in the 2014 Ethiopian calendar fiscal year to 8.4% in 2016, and is projected to reach 12% in the current fiscal year (2017).

* Production capacity utilization rose to 61.2% in the first nine months of the 2017 Ethiopian calendar fiscal year.

* Revenues grew from $2.1 billion in the 2014 fiscal year to $3.1 billion in the first nine months of 2017.

* Manufacturing energy consumption increased from 3.88 billion kilowatt-hours in 2015 to 4.67 billion in 2016.

* According to the National Accounts of the Ministry of Planning and Development, Ethiopia’s manufacturing value added rose significantly—from approximately $5.3 billion in the 2014 Ethiopian calendar fiscal year to $9.25 billion in 2016—reflecting the real output growth mentioned above.


 

Looking ahead, ongoing efforts will focus on developing agricultural processing machinery to expand agro-processing, advancing free energy generation technologies to support rural irrigation and domestic energy supply, and fostering innovation to bring new products to market.
