Ministry of Agriculture Reports Tangible Results from Technology-Driven Livestock

Addis Ababa, May 3, 2025 (ENA) -- The Ministry of Agriculture reports that technology-driven initiatives are yielding measurable progress in Ethiopia's livestock sector, demonstrating tangible advancements.

In a joint effort, the Ministry of Agriculture and its development partners have distributed animal health resources valued at over half a billion birr and distributed to regional states.

Speaking at the handover ceremony for the animal health resources, Minister of Agriculture Girma Amente emphasized that technology-driven progress within the livestock sector is already yielding tangible results.

He further emphasized that these efforts are part of broader initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of pastoralist and semi-pastoralist communities.

The minister stated that mobile veterinary clinics and laboratory equipment were officially delivered today to the Oromia, Southern Ethiopia, and Southwestern Ethiopia regions, which are areas with significant pastoralist populations.

Underscoring the broader impact of the Ministry's efforts, he stated, "Technology-supported and capacity-building initiatives are being implemented across all regions, and we have already seen encouraging results in animal resource development over the past few months."

He further added that the newly delivered mobile clinics and laboratory tools are specifically expected to improve the quality of meat destined for export markets, thereby assisting Ethiopia in meeting international standards.

Girma further elaborated on ongoing efforts to enhance the livestock sector's efficiency through improved infrastructure and planned animal resource development.

Animal conservation centers are being established in several regions to combat the illegal export of livestock and ensure animals are traded through legal channels, he stressed.

Elaborating the significant economic potential of the sector, the minister described Ethiopia’s animal resources crucial role in boosting foreign currency earnings from live animals and animal products.

He further urged the recipient regions to make effective use of the resources provided and to complement them with practical, results-oriented actions, reminding attendees that similar support had previously been extended to the Afar and Somali regions.
