Christian Faithful in Ethiopia Marking Easter with Strong Calls for Unity, Togetherness

Addis Ababa, April 20, 2025 (ENA) --- Ethiopian Christians are observing Easter to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, with religious leaders urging the people to come together in unity to foster a peaceful and prosperous nation for all.

Easter Sunday represents the core of the Christian faith, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, which occurred three days following his crucifixion on Good Friday.

For the faithful, this day embodies themes of hope, renewal, and triumph over death.

In Ethiopia, Easter is known as Fasika and is observed after a 55-day fasting period called Abiy Tsom, (the Great Fast).

On Easter Sunday, the community comes together to commemorate the Resurrection of Jesus with a variety of celebrations, including food and drinks.

Families often visit relatives, bringing along meals for both their loved ones and those in need.

The celebration of Easter in Ethiopia encompasses traditional feasts and special church services, serving as a deep reflection of both faith and cultural heritage.
