PM Abiy Reiterates Federal Gov’t Support to Peace, Stability, and Development in Tigray Region

Addis Ababa, April 8, 2025 (ENA)— Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed pledged to consolidate the Federal Government's ongoing efforts to enhance peace, stability, and development for the people of Tigray.
The handover ceremony for the Interim Chief Administrator of the Tigray Regional State took place today.
Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede has been appointed as Chief Administrator of the region and signed the Tigray Regional State Inclusive Transitional Administration Mission Statement.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed as well as representatives from the continental and international diplomatic community.
During the handover, Prime Minister Abiy has emphasized the federal government’s ongoing commitment to supporting Tigray region, ensuring that its people can enjoy peace, stability, and development.
The Premier further acknowledged the outgoing Interim Chief Administrator of Tigray region, Getachew Reda for his significant contributions in helping the people of Tigray achieve peace during this period.
Let. Gen. Tadesse, in his new role as Interim Chief Administrator, expressed his hope to follow in Getachew's footsteps and continue the work of establishing peace.
According to the Premier, extensive discussions over the past month had covered key topics, including the Ethiopian Constitution, the Pretoria Peace Agreement, and the advice of the diplomatic community.
He also explained these discussions led to the identification of the person that would lead the interim administration and work toward achieving its goals.
Addressing the legal gaps that arose during the discussions through proclamations and practical measures, he stated that the transfer of power had been carried out peacefully and in a way that fosters a new culture of governance.
He also reassured the people that the federal government will continue to support the Tigray region in its quest for peace and to embrace the forthcoming changes in Ethiopia, just as other regions are doing.
The Premier also extended his best wishes to Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede for his continued success in leading the region.
