Ethiopia, AfDB Group Ink Memorandum of Understanding for Construction of Abusera Int'l Airport Project
Addis Ababa, March 14, 2025 (ENA)—Ethiopia and the African Development Bank (AfDB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the construction of “Abusera” international airport project.
Recalled that the Ethiopian Airlines has set plans to build an airport city that could accommodate tens of millions of passengers annually around the town of Bishoftu, at the outskirts of Addis Ababa.
This new airport, to be constructed in Abusera near Bishoftu, Oromia region is a strategic move by Ethiopian Airlines to address the growing demands of air travel and to position Ethiopia as a major hub in Africa’s aviation industry.
In its first phase, the new airport is anticipated to include the construction of the airport facility with a capacity of 60 million passengers per year and the completion of phase two of the airport project will grow to handling more than 100 million passengers per year.
