China Ready to Strengthen All-weather Strategic Partnership with Ethiopia: Ambassador Chen Hai

Addis Ababa, March 11, 2025 (ENA)—China stands ready to strengthen the all-weather strategic partnership between Ethiopia and contribute to stability in this uncertain world, Ambassador Chen Hai said today.

Opening the seminar titled "China in Springtime: Sharing Opportunities with the World China's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Chen Hai, said his country is ready to strengthen the all-weather strategic partnership with Ethiopia.

"This year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of China-Ethiopia diplomatic ties, (and) China stands ready to strengthen our all-weather strategic partnership and contribute to the stability of our relations in (this) an uncertain world."

According to him, ‘‘Ethiopia is a promising land of growth and collaboration; and the modernization process of this country is showing vigorous vitality. ’’

The ambassador outlined China's commitment to supporting Ethiopia's development through initiatives in industrialization, agricultural modernization, and trade, emphasizing the opportunities presented by China's modernization.

He also stressed China's role in amplifying the voices of developing countries in global governance.

On his part, Planning and Development State Minister, Bereket Fitsehatsion, underscored the depth of the bilateral relationship, which was elevated to an "All-Weather Strategic Partnership" in October 2023.

"Our relationship, built on mutual respect and a commitment to development, has flourished over decades, from supporting each other’s struggles for independence to our current strategic collaboration."

Today our partnership stands as a powerful testament to the effectiveness of South-South cooperation," he added.

Bereket further highlighted China's significant contributions to Ethiopia's economic transformation, citing substantial investments, trade volumes, and job creation.

"Recent trade statistics reveal that Ethiopia’s imports from China reached approximately 18 billion USD over the past five years, making China the top source of imports."

The state minister also emphasized Ethiopia's eagerness to capitalize on opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative and to attract further Chinese investment.

The half-day seminar was jointly organized by the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia and the China Media Group.
