Import Substitution Role of Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing Lauded

Addis Ababa, March 7, 2025 (ENA)—Ethiopian President and Patron of the National Quality Award commended the tremendous role of the Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing PLC in import substitution, knowledge management and transfer to the country.

The president visited the factory, which is the winner of the 11th Ethiopian Quality Award, today.

After visiting the company, President Taye said quality, knowledge management, knowledge transfer and good work ethics are among the values that enabled the company to win the first level excellence quality award in 2024.

 

More importantly, import substitution is the commendable role the company has been playing, he pointed out, urging the company to focus on export in the future.

The import substitution role of Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing PLC not only saves foreign currency but also promotes knowledge management and transfer in the country, Taye added.
The president stated the good work culture and production of quality products would enable the company to be competitive in the domestic as well as in the international markets.

Trade and Regional Integration State Minister Endalew Mekonnen said the factory's dedication to quality, productivity and effective management excels customer requirements in all of the products.

 

The state minister reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to supporting and encouraging the efforts of the company in providing quality products for customers while substituting imports.

On his part, Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing PLC Manager, Solomon Assefa said the company has made significant impact on import substitution as it produces quality tyres and products to customers.

The company has been refining its products and expanding investment over the last five years, he revealed, adding that the integrated management system, strong leadership, good work culture, investment on human capital such as capacity building training, coaching, mentoring and skill development programs are the secrets behind the success of the factory.

Benchmarking local and international companies and experience sharing are also of paramount contribution to upgrade and promote the quality and productivity of the company, Solomon stated.

Established in 1957, Horizon Addis Tyre Manufacturing PLC is the only tyre manufacturing company in East Africa. It employs more than 750 employees.
