Diplomats Congratulate Ethiopians on 129th Anniversary of Victory of Adwa

Addis Ababa, March 2, 2025 (ENA) ---- Embassies representing various countries in Ethiopia, including China, Cuba, Germany, Israel, Russia, Siri Lanka, USA, and UK, have extended congratulatory messages to the Ethiopian people in celebration of the 129th anniversary of the Victory of Adwa.

The embassies posted their messages on X.The Chinese Embassy wrote: "The spirit of Adwa Victory has been passed down for 129 years to Ethiopians and beyond for generations. Throughout history, China and Ethiopia share courage, unity and perseverance on our path to modernization. May both countries embrace an even brighter future out of historical struggles!"

Also, the Cuban Embassy posted: "We should never ignore where we come from. Adwa is victory against colonialism and the African symbol of victory. It was in Ethiopia, don't forget."

The German Embassy wrote: "The team at the German Embassy, wishes all Ethiopians a happy 129th Adwa Victory Day!"

Similarly, the Embassy of the Israel stated that it "extends its best wishes to the people of Ethiopia on the 129th anniversary of the Victory of Adwa.... This historic triumph stands as a powerful symbol of resilience, unity, and national pride, inspiring generations both in Ethiopia and beyond. May this day continue to strengthen the spirit of solidarity and progress for the Ethiopian people."

The Embassy of Russia said, "We wish all Ethiopians a Happy Anniversary of the Victory of Adwa! Prosperity, realization of all your plans and success!"

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ethiopia extended "greetings to all Ethiopians in the homeland and around the world on the occasion of 129th Anniversary of the Nation’s moment of Pride... the Victory of the Battle of Adwa."

The U.S. Embassy wrote that it "joins the people of Ethiopia in celebrating the historic Victory of Adwa this Sunday. This day commemorates Ethiopia's triumph over colonial forces at the Battle of Adwa in 1896, a defining moment of resilience, unity, and national pride.

The Ethiopian forces triumphed over the Italian army on March 2, 1896, at the Battle of Adwa. This battle took place in the town of Adwa, located in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
