Ministry Stresses Need for Consolidating Collaboration to Exploit Ethiopia’s Energy Potential

Addis Ababa February 27, 2025 (ENA) --- A need for strengthening collaboration among government and solar suppliers, and manufacturers was stressed today in order to properly exploit Ethiopia’s untapped energy potential, particularly solar energy.  

Opening Ethio-Solar Trade Fair 2025 in Addis Ababa today, Water and Energy State Minister Sultan Welle said energy is instrumental in realizing all kinds of development and prosperity. 


 

“Without energy, we cannot think of development, we cannot think of economic growth, modernization and civilization. In general, we cannot realize broad-based prosperity.”

Regarding the energy resource potential of Ethiopia, the state minister noted that Ethiopia is  endowed with huge renewable energy resources.

Stressing the significant contribution of solar power in the nation’s energy demand, he pointed out that the main purpose of Ethiopia’s solarization program, especially for rural people, is to use it in a more productive manner.

According to him, the main purpose of the fair is to create conducive environment for the private sector and to create a dynamic collaboration between government and solar suppliers and manufacturers.

Ethiopian Solar Energy Development Association (ESEDA) chairwoman Hawi Tesfaye said the fair is not an exhibition but a vital platform for collaboration at a pivotal moment in Ethiopia’s renewable energy journey.


 

For her, it is also vital to unite stakeholders from various sectors to explore opportunities and tackle challenges in the solar energy sector.

The potential of solar energy in Ethiopia can transform lives, enhance agricultural productivity, create jobs and energy access to millions, she stated.


 

The primary objective of Solar Trade Fair 2025 is to create a vibrant networking exhibitions and trade shows, it was indicated.
