Need for Flexible, Responsive Cooperation of Ethiopia and Partners Emphasized
Addis Ababa February 27, 2025 (ENA) --- A forum on building long-lasting partnership between Ethiopia and its partners towards strategic engagement has stressed the need for resilient, flexible and responsive partnership to the changing regional and global order.
Speaking on the occasion today, Institute of Foreign Affairs Executive Director, Jafar Bedru, said partnerships that adapt to the complexities of the 21st century, encompassing geopolitical shifts and technological advancements are crucial.
“Today’s discussions reflect our commitment to forging partnerships that are not only resilient but also flexible and responsive to the complexities of an increasingly interconnected world,” the executive director added.
As power dynamics shift and influence becomes more widely distributed across globe, it is imperative to reinforce and modernize the mechanisms that support collective security, drive economic prosperity, and ensure political stability, Jafar underscored.
According to him, Ethiopia regards the developed nations of Europe and North America as essential partners in its ongoing development endeavors.
Over the past several decades, support from these nations has played a crucial role in advancing Ethiopia’s socio-economic development, he stated, adding that the longstanding partnerships have been marked by resilience, mutual respect, and shared commitment to progress.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chief of Staff, Adam Tesfaye, on his part emphasized that the relationship between Ethiopia and its partners has to be shaped by promoting interdependence, development, stability and win-win cooperation.
Ethiopia attaches a great value to relationships with countries and international organizations that promote development and stability, he said.
“Ethiopia tirelessly works and promotes peace and stability at home and in the region as these values pave the way to prosperity, win-win cooperation, and eventually lead to regional and continent wide integration.”
The chief underlined that the partnership between Ethiopia and its partners need to be aware of and respect the fundamental national interests of the country.
He added that the forum is a critical step in overcoming misunderstandings and disagreements, clearing the path for resolving differences and establishing a strong foundation for elevating and deepening mutual cooperation between Ethiopia and its partners.
On his part, British Embassy Head of Mission to Ethiopia, Darren Wetch, emphasized the importance of mutual understanding and respect to further deepening strategic engagement.
Acknowledging the potential of Ethiopia to be a power house nation, he said the forum is crucial in providing opportunity for exchanging views, knowledge and experience to strengthen the foundation of the partnership between Ethiopia and its partners, including the UK.
The head noted that opportunities of exchanging views, knowledge, ideas, expertise and experiences as well as promoting understanding and building common knowledge are foundational for strengthening partnership and deeper strategic engagement.
