Finland Keen on Diversifying Cooperation with Ethiopia: Ambassador Antila

Addis Ababa, February 24, 2025 (ENA)—Finland's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sinikka Antila said her country is desirous to diversifying partnerships with Ethiopia in various spheres.  

 In an exclusive interview with the Ethiopian News Agency, Ambassador Antila highlighted the long-standing development cooperation between Finland and Ethiopia.

According to the ambassador, Finland is committed to diversifying partnerships, particularly in digitalization, education, and peace mediation.

Finland has been a key partner to Ethiopia's development for over 35 years, focusing on education, water supply, and agriculture sectors.

This year, Antila noted 30 years of cooperation in water supply with Ethiopia.

"We have very long-time cooperation, especially in development, education, water supply, agriculture and now in digitized land registration," she stated.

The ambassador added Finland is keen on expanding collaboration with Ethiopia in digitalization, leveraging its expertise in technology.

She emphasized the importance of expediting digital connectivity for Ethiopia's development.

"We are very keen on digitalization... we have Nokia here and are working with Ethio-telecom and Safaricom, and other areas of business partnerships," she said.

The ambassador added: "The niche area for Finland is inclusive education, so bringing everybody on board, especially those with handicapped people and children".

The ambassador mentioned that Finland's support for community-based water supply projects have improved access to clean water and reduced the burden on women and children.

On the other hand, Ambassador Antila praised the ongoing development projects in Addis Ababa, including the construction of new roads and parks.

"Every Sunday I go for a walk with my dog in Entoto Park, it's a beautiful place with clean air... It's a big change, I've been here one and a half years and it has changed a lot," she revealed.

She also expressed admiration for Ethiopia's rich cultural heritage and tourist attractions, such as Axum and Lalibela.
