Russia Expresses Continued Support for Ethiopia’s Development Efforts

Addis Ababa, February 19, 2025 (ENA) -- The Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Federation, Agegnehu Teshager, engaged in talks with Valentina Matvienko, the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, along with her accompanying delegation.
A Russian high level delegation led by Valentina Matvienko is in Ethiopia for a three days official visit.
The delegation is comprised of senators, federal ministers, deputy ministers, as well as heads of large Russian state corporations.
Today, Speaker of Ethiopia’s House of Federation, Agegnehu Teshager conferred with the delegation.
On the occasion, Speaker Agegnehu said that Russia and Ethiopia have strong relations that have transcended the ages.
Ethiopia will always remember Russia's firm position and backing during the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the national interests of Ethiopia, Agegnehu stated.
He also thanked Russia’s support for Ethiopia to join the BRICS.
Speaker Agegnehu underlined that the two houses ought to enhance their interactions through the sharing of information, knowledge, experience, and technical support, foster parliamentary democracy, and collaborate in advancing the cultural values of both nations.
Agegnehu reiterated Ethiopian government’s commitment to further elevating its strategic partnership with Russia.
He added that Ethiopia will continue to strengthen its regional cooperation and ties with neighboring countries in a way that serves the interests of all countries.
Valentina Matvienko, the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation for her part revealed that Russia will continue to strengthen its cooperation and support to Ethiopia in economic, technology, health, energy sector and cultural development.
It is to be noted that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the Russian delegation led by the Speaker Valentina Matvienko held bilateral talks on Tuesday.
